Newly Formed

2020

Type

Newly Formed is a well-known course in RISD's Graphic Design program, with typographic work from the class being published every year as a broadside on newsprint. As a way to exercise my own visual sensibilities, I decided to spend one day tackling one of the first assignments given to designers in the course: creating a "systems-based" alphabet, constructed using a set of parameters and a limited number of forms.

Flatpack Inspiration

These letterforms take inspiration from the structural and diagrammatic style of illustrations commonly seen in assembly guides for flatpack furniture. Each letter is marked with its "part" number: its corresponding ASCII character code.
